ESF Community Grants -
The North East ESF Community Grants 2011-2013 programme provides grants of up to £12,000 to small, third sector, voluntary and community organisations to engage with local communities to deliver a range of skills and employment support to enable people from the hardest to reach communities, experiencing multiple disadvantages, to make progress towards the labour market.
Banks Community Fund -
The Banks Community Fund distributes grants on behalf of The Banks Group. Grants are awarded to community and voluntary organisations that are charitable, educational, philanthropic or benevolent in purpose and which are located within close proximity of a current or proposed Banks Group operation or will be affected by a Banks Group operation.

Two free events for learning disability providres have been organised by the North East Third Sector Learning Disability Provider Network & VONNE. These are:
'Who, What, When, How? Staying afloat in the changing policy environment', 29th February, 9:30-1:30 in Newcastle (Skills for People) discussing changes in Health Policy, Funding & Structures, Health and Wellbeing Boards, Clinical Commissioning Groups and more.
The second event is 'What Really Matters? Meaningful quality measurement', 19th March 9:30-4 in Darlington (Clifton Centre) exploring how learning disability providers an measure what's really important to ensure that service users are safe and progressing whilst meeting the expectations of local authorities and the CQC.

A new initiative to encourage more staff & volunteers to take up Disability Awareness is now available in Darlington
Signs4Life have set up introductory workshops in Disability Awareness to help staff to communicate and engage with their disabled colleagues, service users and clients. This local initiative is to help explore different types of disability, identify disabilities, seek ways to remove barriers and introduce best practise, debate and ask questions, and also to encourage inclusion of all people with sensory, physical or learning disabilities in Darlington.

Sir Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of NCVO has urged all voluntary sector groups and organisations to contribute any information of cuts in funding for their organisations to the Voluntary Sector Cuts website, with Communities Secretary Eric Pickles preparing to back up the Government's statutory guidance and intervene directly against disproportionate cuts to Voluntary Sector organisations.
S&D Training have released their latest newsletter including a feature on National Apprenticeship Week taking place between the 6th & 10th of February, as well as information about upcoming workshops for employers and courses to help people secure employment. Volunteers are needed to work with young people aged 16, taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) Darlington area. The purpose of the role is to motivate young people and be a positive role model as to why it is important to be a good citizen. This is an ideal opportunity for people who would like to get experience in working with young people, or who would just like to get involved in this fantastic scheme, now in its second year.

The Community Development team have worked with various funders to provide groups with an opportunity to meet with funding representatives to discuss do’s and dont's when submitting funding applications. The meetings will operate on a drop in basis, by appointment only, with each slot lasting around 15 minutes.
The following funders will be available: Tuesday 21st Feb 10am – 2pm – Heritage Lottery, Wed 22nd Feb 9am – 12pm – County Durham Community Foundation, Thurs 23rd Feb – 1pm – 4pm – Children in Need.

A five-year contract worth 45 million to handle non-emergency medical calls in the North East has been awarded to a local partnership.
NHS County Durham and Darlington, on behalf of NHS North of Tyne, NHS South of Tyne and NHS Tees, announced today that it has awarded a five year contract to North East Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (NEAS) in collaboration with Northern Doctors Urgent Care Ltd (NDUC) for the roll-out and provision of the NHS 111 service across the North East.
Since August 2010 residents of County Durham and Darlington, with an illness or injury that is less urgent than 999, have been able to call the new NHS 111 number in order to access quickly the healthcare service that best meets their needs. Now following on from this successful pilot, the new NHS 111 service will be rolled out across the rest of the North East by April 2013.
