ESV Garden Challenge 2008
On a wet Tuesday in June three teams of volunteers representing Darlington Borough Council, The Local Strategic Partnership’s Business Team and Darlington Primary Care Trust competed in a ‘Groundforce’ style garden make-over challenge as part of eVOLutions Volunteers' Week celebrations.
Despite the atrocious weather conditions the teams showed heroic dedication to their tasks and all three gardens were completed to a very high standard.
The gardens all belonged to older people who could no longer take care of the them , but still wanted to be able to enjoy them.
Each team was briefed with creating a low maintenance, attractive garden; the winners of the challenge would be the team that had managed to bring about the most dramatic transformation, decided by a vote at the eVOLution Volunteer Awards.
eVOLution Volunteer Awards attendees decided that the LSP Business Team deserved to be crowned ESV Champions 2008 and the award was accepted by Steve Rose Chief Executive of the LSP.
Mark Wilkes, eVOLution’s new ESV Development Worker said: “Although the LSP won I think all three teams can be really proud of themselves. Considering the conditions on the day, they were all winners.”
eVOLution would like to thank the following organisations who supported the teams: Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust, Wynn Construction, Garden Girl, MKM, DAH Turf Supplies, i2i financial planning group, Groundwork, Darlington Football Club, Gardener’s Barn and John Wade Skips.
